From the file labeled “a little bit behind on breaking news,” we bring you this one!
On July 6, Virginia-bred Chedi set a new track record when the bay gelding by Cherokee Run covered one mile on Colonial’s dirt oval in 1:34.79. The previous record of 1:35.07 was set on June 26, 2004 by the stakes winner Mt. Carson.
The race scratched down to just three horses when the allowance race for non-winners of two was pulled off the turf course. Chedi, who is trained by Chris Crocker and who was ridden this day by Lucie Herkova, easily dispatched of his two rivals winning by 6 ¾ lengths over the sloppy main track as the second favorite.
Chedi is out of the Doc’s Leader mare Doctoressa and was bred by Wayne and Susie Chatfield-Taylor’s Morgan’s Ford Farm in partnership with Darley.
Chedi’s track record breaking win earned the four-year-old $27,840.
